Today we cover Chapter 8 of the God Experiment

One of the most relatable moments comes early in the episode, when the hosts discuss how the Holy Spirit gives us "gut checks"—subtle internal nudges to pause, reflect, or change course. Whether it’s a prompt to respond more gently to a messy room or an urge to shift plans and speak with someone unexpectedly, these moments are often Spirit-led opportunities to bear spiritual fruit. As one host shared, “Usually, when it’s something I don’t want to do, that’s how I know it’s from Him.” These daily intersections between the flesh and Spirit offer a choice: ignore the prompt or step into growth.

A major theme in Day 2 is confronting the myth that adulthood means freedom to "do whatever you want." The hosts break down Galatians 5:17, which reminds us that the desires of the flesh are in direct conflict with the Spirit. One of the most honest reflections is how this plays out in real life: “If you want love, joy, peace, and self-control, you can’t get it by following your flesh. You have to do it God’s way.” It’s a sobering truth, especially for anyone who’s tried to chase fulfillment on their own terms—only to find destruction or emptiness.

One of the most moving segments comes during the discussion on the importance of self-assessment. The hosts challenge listeners to take inventory of their spiritual “output”: Are you producing fruit or just excuses? With powerful transparency, one shares how recovery groups like AA taught him the value of vocalizing struggles: “Secrets keep you sick. When you speak it out loud, you can finally deal with it.” The reminder here is that pretending you're fine doesn’t make it true. Spiritual growth starts with honest confession and naming the problem.

In Day 5, the podcast shifts to solutions: taking a strategic step toward transformation. Whether it’s joining a church, Celebrate Recovery, AA, or a small group, the key is to not walk alone. “Surround yourself with people who will help you grow,” they urge. Even if you're not ready for every step, take the first one. That might mean just showing up or finally saying “I need help.” Transformation isn’t about perfection—it’s about progression.

This episode reminds us that walking in the Spirit isn't just about reading a list of virtues—it's about choosing them, moment by moment. Through gut checks, honest reflection, and intentional community, we learn to walk away from the flesh and toward lasting fruit.
