Walking Together to End Alzheimer’s: Kunes Toyota of Galesburg Supports the Fight

Published on Sep 23, 2025 by Matthew Kroll

Every step matters when it comes to ending Alzheimer’s, and this September, the community will once again come together for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Kunes Toyota of Galesburg is proud to shine a spotlight on this powerful event and the mission that drives it forward.

Why the Walk Matters

Alzheimer’s disease impacts millions of families across the country. Chances are, everyone knows someone—whether a parent, grandparent, friend, or neighbor—who has been affected. That reality is what makes the Walk to End Alzheimer’s such an important event.

Julie Johnson, Community Engagement Co-Chair for the Alzheimer’s Association Peoria Community, has been part of the walk for more than a decade. Her commitment has grown year after year as she’s seen firsthand the impact it makes.

“The mission of the Alzheimer’s Association is to lead the way to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementias,” Julie explains. “That mission is what inspires me to keep going and keep encouraging others to get involved.”

2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s Goals

This year’s walk carries a bold fundraising goal of $85,000. With more than 50 teams already signed up, the community is well on its way—nearly $78,000 has already been raised.

The funds don’t just support research. They also fuel awareness, education, support groups, and advocacy for families navigating Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Each donation, big or small, contributes to progress.

An Inclusive Community Event

One of the most remarkable things about the Walk to End Alzheimer’s is its inclusivity. It truly is an event for everyone. Families, children, individuals using wheelchairs, strollers, and even dogs are welcome to participate. The walk isn’t about competition or distance—it’s about unity, hope, and raising awareness.

And for those unable to attend in person, there are still ways to make a difference. Donations can be made online or over the phone, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to join the fight.

Part of a Nationwide Movement

While the Galesburg-area walk is powerful on its own, it’s also part of something much larger. With over 600 Walk to End Alzheimer’s events held nationwide, the movement has become the world’s largest effort to fight Alzheimer’s.

Since its start in 1991, the Walk has grown in both size and impact. Communities across the country are united by one driving force: ending Alzheimer’s. Locally, Julie notes that what makes the Peoria-area walk stand out is the dedication of its committee and volunteers. “Everyone is so goal-oriented and so supportive of one another,” she says. “That shared focus brings incredible energy.”

How to Get Involved

The upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held on Saturday, September 27th. The kickoff celebration begins at 8:00 AM, followed by the official start of the walk at 9:30 AM.

Whether you choose to walk, volunteer, or donate, your involvement makes a real impact. Julie’s message is clear: “The more people who get involved, the closer we can be to ending Alzheimer’s.”
Join the cause, bring your family, invite your friends, and take part in an event that brings hope to so many.
