Kunes Car Clash

Over the past month, Kunes Auto Group has hosted a tournament featuring your favorite vehicles, ranging from the Honda Civic to the Ford F-150. We pitted 32 vehicles against each other in a bracket-style competition to determine the ultimate winner.

The competition was organized by dividing the vehicles into four categories: Sedans, SUVs, Trucks, and EV/PHEVs, with each category starting with eight vehicles. The tournament structure allowed for vehicles from each category to compete against each other until only one vehicle from each category remained. Below, you will find a detailed breakdown of each category and an overview of how the tournament progressed to its exciting finale.

The Sedan Category

The Sedan category featured eight vehicles: Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Camry, Chevy Malibu, Mercedes-Benz E350, Cadillac CT5, Toyota Crown, and Volvo S60. The first round of matchups resulted in the Honda Civic defeating the Volvo S60, the Mercedes E350 winning against the Chevy Malibu, the Cadillac CT5 unexpectedly beating the Toyota Camry, and the Toyota Crown surprising everyone by defeating the Hyundai Elantra. In the second round, the Honda Civic maintained its top-seed status by overcoming the Mercedes E350, while the Cadillac CT5 continued its streak of upsets by defeating the Toyota Crown. The third round saw the Honda Civic narrowly beating the Cadillac CT5, which led to the Honda Civic emerging as the winner of the Sedan category and advancing to the semifinals.

The SUVs

The SUV category comprised eight vehicles: Toyota Rav4, Ford Bronco, Hyundai Palisade, Jeep Wrangler, GMC Acadia, Buick Envista, Dodge Durango, and Mitsubishi Outlander. The first round saw several compelling matchups. The Toyota RAV4 overcame the Mitsubishi Outlander, while the Jeep Wrangler bested the GMC Acadia. The Buick Envista, unexpectedly, defeated the favored Hyundai Palisade. The round concluded with the Ford Bronco's victory over the Dodge Durango. In the quarterfinals, the Jeep Wrangler upset the higher-seeded Toyota RAV4, and the Ford Bronco halted the Buick Envista's surprising run. The final match in the SUV category saw the Ford Bronco triumph over the Jeep Wrangler, propelling it into the semifinals.

The EV/PHEV category consisted of eight vehicles: Ford Mustang Mach-E, Ford F-150 Lightning, Nissan Ariya, Toyota BZ4x, Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Mercedes-Benz EQS 580, and GMC Hummer. The first round was notable for its surprises, including the 29th-seeded GMC Hummer defeating the 4th-seeded Ford Mustang Mach-E, and the 28th-seeded Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV beating the 5th-seeded Nissan Ariya. Additionally, the first round saw a tie between the Toyota BZ4X and the Volvo XC40, resolved by a coin flip in favor of the Toyota BZ4X, while the Ford F-150 Lightning overcame the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580. In the quarterfinals, the GMC Hummer continued its unexpected success by beating the 13th-seeded Toyota BZ4X, and the Ford F-150 Lightning secured a win against the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. The EV category concluded with the Ford F-150 Lightning defeating the GMC Hummer, advancing to the semifinals.

The Trucks

Lastly, we turn our attention to the Truck category, featuring eight vehicles: the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, RAM 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, Toyota Tacoma, Honda Ridgeline, Hyundai Santa Cruz, and Nissan Frontier. In the initial round, the outcomes aligned with expectations, seeing victories from the higher-ranked contenders: Ford F-150, GMC Sierra 1500, RAM 1500, and Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The subsequent round witnessed the Ford F-150 triumph over the GMC Sierra 1500, while the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 secured our first upset by defeating the RAM 1500. In a surprising turn during the third round, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 once again defied expectations, this time by overcoming the Ford F-150, thereby advancing to the semifinals.

The Semifinals and Finals

With only four vehicles remaining, one from each category, the Semi-Finals and Finals promised thrilling matchups. The first Semi-Final match on Monday featured the Honda Civic versus the Ford F-150 Lightning. The top-seeded Honda Civic won convincingly against the 12th-seeded Ford F-150 Lightning, with a final vote count of 41 to 22, securing its spot in the Final. The other Semi-Final match was a nail-biter between the 10th-seeded Ford Bronco and the 11th-seeded Chevy Silverado, with the Ford Bronco narrowly winning by one vote, 30 to 29. This set the stage for a final showdown on Wednesday between the Ford Bronco and the Honda Civic. In a thrilling contest, the Ford Bronco emerged victorious over the Honda Civic with a vote tally of 32 to 22, concluding our inaugural Kunes Car Clash and showcasing the Ford Bronco's surprising strength.
