Pros and Cons of Buying A Used Vehicle - Kunes Auto and RV Group

As we advance in technology, many vehicles tend to last longer which means that used cars are more reliable than before. That being said, there’s actually a lot to get excited about when it comes to used cars, trucks, and SUVs.

Everyone knows that the moment you drive a car off the lot, it starts depreciating.  Luckily, you won’t have to worry too much about the depreciation rate on a used car because it lost most of its value under the previous owner.  Depreciation is one of the main reasons why used cars are cheaper than new ones.  Another perk for buying a used car is that your auto insurance is cheaper because the vehicle has a lower value.  With all things considered, a used vehicle might be a more attractive option for you.

It should go without saying that used cars may need repairs.  Due to the fact that used cars are sold as-is, you are responsible for any issues that may arise after you purchase and drive the car off the lot. Another disadvantage of used vehicle repairs is that the warranty is most likely expired which means you will have to pay for it, depending on your insurance coverage.

You could take the time to review the vehicle’s history to avoid purchasing a lemon; however, details like how the previous owner drove the car aren’t displayed on the report.  When you purchase a used car, you are taking a risk and should consider all of your options before making a final decision.

  • Low Price
    • Low insurance rates
    • Low registration fees

  • Lower depreciation rate

  • Higher interest rates for financing

  • Sold as-is (unless dealership says otherwise)

  • Warranty might be expired

  • History of the vehicle may be missing

When you shop for a used car, truck, or SUV, buckle up for a lengthy and tedious process.  Even though shopping for a vehicle can be frustrating, it’s all worth it after you drive it home.  Hopefully, our list of pros and cons helped you decide whether a used vehicle is the right choice for you.  If you’re looking to discover more options, check back with us next time when we discuss the pros and cons of buying Certified Pre-Owned vehicles.
