Okay people, if you want to keep your ride safe from getting swiped, you gotta be smart about it. First off, ALWAYS lock up, even if you’re just running into the store for a minute. You should park in well-lit, busy spots so thieves think twice. An alarm or immobilizer can be a big help too. And seriously, don’t leave your ride running and unattended – that’s just asking for trouble. Keep a record of the make, model, and license plate number somewhere other than your vehicle, just in case.

As always, if you see anything sketchy, report it to the cops. If you still have concerns about your vehicle getting stolen, you might want to consider using a steering wheel or pedal lock for extra security. With these tips, you should be able to keep your ride safe from sticky fingers.

  • Always lock your doors and windows when you leave the car.
  • When you park, try to find a spot that’s well-lit and near other people.
  • Use a steering wheel lock or a pedal lock to keep your car from being driven away.
  • Consider getting an alarm or an immobilizer, which will make your car harder to steal.
  • Don’t leave anything valuable in the car, like your phone or wallet, when you’re not there.
  • Don’t leave the car running and unattended.
  • If someone tries to steal your car, you can help the police find it by putting identification marks on it.
  • Keep a record of your car’s make, model, and license plate number in a safe place.
  • If you see anything suspicious, don’t hesitate to call the police.

Want to make it harder for someone to steal your ride’s parts and get back at them if they do?  Then check this out:  Consider engraving your initials or the VIN on your vehicle’s key components.  When a vehicle gets stolen, the most common parts that get resold are the catalytic converter, engine, transmission, front fender, hood, front door, windows, and the front and rear bumpers.

You can also mark up your tires and rims to make them tougher to sell if they get stolen. If you have an in-dash audio or navigation system, mark that with your initials too. And don’t forget to put your personal touch on valuable components under the hood like the battery, alternator, and starter motor. Just make sure you check your state’s laws first, and if you’re unsure, talk to a pro before you start etching.
